Leo and Ari are the little trolls that Damian was not mentally or emotionally prepared to have. Laila was an easy kid. She’s quiet, self-entertained, and restrained. Leo and Ari, though. Those two. They are screaming little monsters full of energy and quips. Laila waited for Dick to officially nominate her as Robin and pass the mantle to her on her tenth birthday, but Leo and Ari let their dear old dad know that they were ready to join the Crusade by showing up for breakfast with the family wearing matching scaly green shorts and shiteating grins.
Everyone went dead silent. Damian pushed his chair back and left the room without a word. As soon as he was out of earshot, Steph and Dick laughed until they cried. It took Damian a while to acclimate to his sons being as bewildering to him as his partner(s), but Laila just patted his arm and told him that it’s okay, Father—-she’ll take over the company and mercilessly crush everyone and make him proud.
(He blames the twins’ love of Disney princesses on Dick. None of this would have happened if his twice-damned brother wasn’t a Disney princess himself.)
