Anonymous asked: Kitty, how are you do manage your college-level school work and all of your comic-related extra activities? I'm having a hard time finding a balance, but you seem like you're giving both equal attention.
I don’t sleep. I mean, I DO, but I have chronic insomnia, so getting four hours of sleep or less at a time is normal for me. Every couple of days, I’ll crash and get a “normal” night’s sleep, but for the most part I run on three to five hours. You can get a lot done if you sleep three hours a night instead of nine! I’m not doing as well this term as I’d like to be, since my health-related issues at the beginning of the year kicked my butt and put me way behind. I’m just hoping to survive this term, ngl.
I’ve also been consciously working on my creative projects in earnest because I want to get into a mode where my output is regular and my quality is consistent. I KNOW what the job market looks like. I KNOW I’m going to have a lot of trouble finding a job—-I already am. And I KNOW that living off of my writing is going to be tough, if I even make it at all. So I’ve been pushing myself to finish things, to stick to personal deadlines, and to convince myself that I can work through writing blocks and lapses of inspiration. I can produce, I can stick to deadlines, and I’m constantly trying to improve my work. In a creative field, that’s very important.
