pivitor asked: So is Nightwing officially going by “Richard” now, or is that just going to be in your books? As much as it’d help tone down the “dick” jokes, it still feels off to me.

It’s an adjustment, certainly, it feels a bit weird to me, as well.

But I think their idea is that new readers and viewers collapse into giggles over his old nickname sometimes.

DC’s worried that the name “Dick” will turn away readers, but their portrayal of Starfire which is actually causing devoted fans to stop buying Red Hood and the Outlaws is not a big deal at all?

God, I am so sick of this bullshit.

Personally, I like collapsing into giggles over his old nickname. It informs who Dick Grayson IS—-he’s a goofball that will make dick jokes about himself, if you don’t beat him to it. The language that they choose to be sensitive to continually baffles me. More and more, it feels like many of the continuity changes and edicts from above are fueled by the tastes of one or two editors, rather than a conscious effort to push the DCnU into modern relevance. I wish that I got the feeling that they’re appealing to a future audience—-one that definitely embraces a different idea of the modernity comics should reflect—-and not that they’re actively ignoring them.
